Anxiety Counselling

services

I am not an art therapist. I use art and creative activities to help children engage in sessions, express feelings, and practise emotional regulation in ways that can feel more accessible.

Anxiety can leave your mind racing, your body tense, and everyday responsibilities feeling harder to carry. You may notice persistent worry, trouble settling at night, avoidance of situations that feel overwhelming, or a sense that you always need to be prepared for the worst. Anxiety counselling in Thunder Bay offers a confidential, validating space to talk about what has been happening and develop practical ways to respond.

At Northwest Wellness, I provide individualized counselling for children, teens, and adults. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, culturally responsive, and shaped around your needs, experiences, and goals.

Support for Anxiety Across Different Stages of Life

Anxiety can look different at different ages. Children may struggle with school attendance, separation, big feelings, physical complaints, or worries they do not yet have words for. Teens may feel pressure around friendships, social situations, school expectations, identity, or constant comparison. Adults may carry work stress, family responsibilities, relationship concerns, and the impact of difficult past experiences.

Together, we can make sense of the patterns anxiety creates in your life and build tools that fit your circumstances. Anxiety counselling may include support with:

School anxiety,

emotional regulation, and coping skills for children

Social anxiety

stress, and self-understanding for teens

Work stress

life transitions, and persistent worry for adults

Build Practical Tools for Everyday Moments

My work draws on research-informed approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, strategies. CBT can help you notice connections among thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions. From there, we can explore coping strategies that feel realistic and relevant to your daily life.

Grounding exercises can also be useful when anxiety feels intense or disconnected from the present moment. These practices may involve noticing sensory details around you, slowing your breathing, or identifying what helps your body feel more settled. Sessions are a place to practise these tools, reflect on what works, and adjust them with care.

Know What to Expect in Counselling

Early sessions give us time to talk about your concerns, what anxiety has been affecting, and what you would like support with. I will listen carefully to your experiences without judgment. The pace is guided by what feels manageable, and there is room to revisit goals as life changes.

For children, I may bring in creative or activity-based approaches that help make feelings easier to explore. Teens and adults can expect an authentic, tailored conversation that balances space to be heard with practical skill-building. Anxiety counselling in Thunder Bay can be offered in person, with virtual counselling also available for clients across Ontario.
